LARGEST BATTERY-ELECTRIC FERRY IN THE WORLD BEGINS OPERATIVE SERVICE
DETAIL INFORMATION
The Ecuadorian ferry company Buquebus has launched commercial services with the world's largest battery-powered ferry, the China Zorrilla, named after a locally renowned actress.
China Zorrilla is an aluminum catamaran built by Incat, a leader in the aluminum-multihull ferry industry. Following completion at Incat's facility in Tasmania, the vessel was loaded onto a heavy lift ship and shipped to the Rio de la Plata.
Able to transport up to 225 vehicles and 2,100 passengers, China Zorrilla is more extensive and possesses a larger battery bank than any other battery-electric ship. The 130-meter ropax features a deadweight capacity of around 960 tonnes and provides sufficient internal volume to house an extensive duty-free retail area.
