SALVAGE EFFORTS HAVE REMOVED OVER TWO-THIRDS OF MSC BALTIC III
DETAIL INFORMATION
The recovery and recycling process for the damaged container ship MSC Baltic III is advancing significantly. In its latest update on the operation, the Canadian Coast Guard reports that Resolve Marine has taken away around 68 percent of the vessel’s tonnage, with the leftover parts being towed to the shore.
The most recent statistics show a comparison with slightly more than 6,000 tons that had been retrieved by early October. At that time, they reported that around 55 percent of the ship's tonnage had been retrieved and sent for recycling. The most recent estimate places the recovered amount at 7,445 tonnes.
The 207-meter (679-foot) ship had lost power and ran aground on Newfoundland's coast in February 2025. The initial stage of the salvage operation concentrated on extracting the fuel from the vessel and other possible contaminants along with the cargo. The second stage, concentrating on the vessel's recycling, commenced in May 2026 with a contract awarded to Resolve Marine.
