TWO OF MAERSK’S BIGGEST CONTAINERSHIPS PASS THROUGH SUEZ CANAL

On Saturday, August 22, two of Maersk’s biggest containerships traveled together through the Suez Canal. It is part of the carrier’s ongoing initiatives to return ships to the Suez Canal – Red Sea route and enhance operational efficiency.
The Suez Canal Authority emphasized the transits while it persists in efforts to restore operations. A special plaque ceremony was held to honor the Bangkon Maersk, one of the carrier’s latest large vessels, marking its inaugural transit through the Suez Canal.
Leading Saturday's convoy from the north was the Mathilde Maersk, constructed in 2015 (214,121 dwt). The vessel is included in the last series of the Triple E class, which are Maersk's largest capacity ships. Her rated capacity is 19,076 TEU, and she was headed for Colombo en route to the Far East.
