  • HAWAII'S HARBORS BRACE FOR TROPICAL STORM LALA

    DETAIL INFORMATION

Tropical Storm Lala is on its way to Hawaii and is expected to develop into a Category 1 hurricane, prompting the U.S. Coast Guard to prepare harbors and mariners accordingly.

Starting Friday night and Saturday morning, the Coast Guard will close ports throughout the island chain in anticipation of the storm's approach. Port condition Zulu will be established for all counties in Hawaii by 0800 local time on Saturday morning. The declaration mandates that ships of 200 GT or more must leave port ahead of the storm, unless they obtain explicit permission from the port captain to remain. Once port condition Zulu is activated, the port is completely closed, and no vessel or cargo activities are allowed unless they obtain explicit authorization.

A unique hurricane warning is currently active for the Big Island, in addition to tropical storm warnings and watches for the other major islands.
