PLANS FOR A 200 TEU SAIL CARGO SHIP ARE REVEALED BY THE FRENCH SAIL CARGO COMPANY
DETAIL INFORMATION
Grain de Sail, a French chocolate manufacturer and sail cargo enterprise, revealed its most ambitious plans to date for a far larger sail cargo ship. As part of a plan that includes up to four ships by 2027, the company reports that it would achieve significant scale for its operations with the design that calls for a capacity of 200 TEU or 2,800 metric tonnes.
A 360-foot container ship with a greater capacity and the potential to cross the Atlantic in around 13 days is what the Grain de Sail III project aims to build. With the exception of in-port and channel manoeuvres, the ship would run fully on wind power. The crew would have access to hot water and heat from a wood pellet boiler on board.
Oliver Barreau, co-founder and president of Grain de Sail, stated, "With Grain de Sail III, we are showcasing our goals and enhancing our leadership in the decarbonised maritime transport segment." "A pure sailing container ship is what we're going to do in order to change scale and make wind-powered transportation accessible."
