PLANS FOR THE WORLD'S FIRST AMMONIA-FUELED CONTAINERSHIP IN NORWAY
DETAIL INFORMATION
A creative effort underway in Norway aims to construct the first containership driven by ammonia in history. Expected to be in service by 2026, the vessel will be built in collaboration with Yara International, a company that produces ammonia, and its subsidiary, Yara Clean Energy. The Norwegian government will provide funding for the project through its Enova investment fund.
The firms stated that the vessel is being built for the commerce route between Norway and Northern Europe, but they did not disclose the exact size of the vessel. They claimed that service between Hamburg and Bremerhaven in Germany and Oslo and Brevik in Norway would be optimised. NCL Oslo, a recently formed joint venture between the two firms, will run it.
