  • GERMANY'S LARGEST OFFSHORE WIND FARM LAUNCHED AS COMMISSIONING ADVANCES

    DETAIL INFORMATION

The He Dreiht, Germany's biggest offshore wind farm situated in the North Sea, celebrated its opening last week as the project progresses towards complete commissioning. This occurs as Germany persists in discussing the shape of its upcoming offshore wind initiatives and the government's involvement in the ventures.

The initiative comprises 64 Vestas 15 MW wind turbines and is situated a little more than 50 miles northwest of Borkum, around 68 miles west of Heligoland. Once fully operational, it will be able to produce up to 960 MW.

“He Dreiht represents EnBW's largest individual investment in renewable energy,” stated Georg Stamatelopoulos, Chairman of the Board of Management at EnBW. “We require additional initiatives similar to He Dreiht that provide affordable, safe, and clean energy.” Simultaneously, we must align Germany's overall energy framework with these three elements. This can only be achieved if we demonstrate bravery along with practicality.

EnBW received the contract in 2017 for He Dreiht during the initial round of auctions for offshore wind farms in Germany, without any claim to government subsidies. It was constructed without government funding and is solely financed by long-term power purchase contracts. EnBW possesses 50.1 percent of the shares via a project firm. The rest of the 49.9 percent is owned by a consortium that includes Allianz Global Investors representing Allianz entities, AIP Management, and Norges Bank Investment Management. Approximately 2.4 billion euros were spent on the project's development.
