MAERSK CONFIRMS REPORTS OF SIGNIFICANT NEW VESSEL ORDER

Maersk is progressing with a significant new order of ships, representing around 10 percent of the carrier's existing operational capacity. The announcement follows several days of industry speculation regarding Maersk making significant orders and modifying its strategy, which in recent years has primarily concentrated on renewing its fleet.
A representative from Maersk informed The Maritime Executive on Friday, "We can confirm that 26 large container ships have been ordered as part of our continuous fleet renewal initiative." The provider has not yet released an official statement, and as of now, specifics remain uncertain.
The company announced, however, that the new ships will possess a capacity of 18,600 TEU and will feature dual-fuel engines that can run on liquefied gas. The delivery of the vessels is anticipated in 2029 and 2030.
The new vessels will be among the largest in the Maersk fleet, as the carrier so far has not followed others in the industry in the jump to ultra-large container vessels with a capacity of 24,000 TEU. Maersk’s largest vessels are the Triple E Class, which was introduced between 2013 and 2019, with a capacity ranging between 18,270 TEU and 20,568 TEU between two groups in the class.
