PORTS WORK TO RECOVER AS THE ILWU ANNOUNCES THE START OF THE RATIFICATION PROCESS
DETAIL INFORMATION
Now that the Pacific Maritime Association and International Longshore and Warehouse Union announced a tentative agreement after 13 months of negotiations, ports and terminals along the U.S. West Coast are working to catch up and clear out any backlogs that developed as a result of the labour shortage of recent days. The union warned that it might take a few months for the agreement to be ratified, but the port and shipping communities generally welcomed the news of the accord.
The ILWU President Willie Adams said in a statement that "the final decision is up to our members, but we feel our time at the bargaining table was well spent and that the agreement represents the hard work of our rank and file and the sacrifices they made during the pandemic."
