KONGSBERG MARITIME TO PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE TECHNOLOGY SOLUTION FOR SVITZER

Kongsberg Maritime has obtained a contract from Cochin Shipyard Ltd. (CSL) to provide a comprehensive equipment and technology solution for Svitzer’s upcoming generation of fully electric TRAnsverse tugs. The agreement includes four vessels, with the possibility of four more, marking a major move in Svitzer’s plan to promote effective, zero-emission towing in harbours and terminals.
Kongsberg Maritime’s range covers the entire electrical and automation framework, comprising DC and AC switchboards, PM Propulsion motors, and required shore charging facilities. Every tug will mainly be fueled by a 4.8MWh battery system. Centralized automation and control will be provided through the K?Chief system and K?Chief PMS, allowing smooth integration from propeller to battery and easy “one-touch-mode” transitions.
Each tug will feature two Kongsberg Maritime US L Drive azimuth thrusters with 2.8-metre nozzles, driven by 2,000 kW permanent magnet motors and controlled via the AquaPilot thruster management system. The thrusters offer excellent propulsion efficiency and accurate manoeuvrability, satisfying the requirements of intricate harbour and terminal activities.
