  • CONTAINERS BEGIN COMING OFF EVER FORWARD AS SALVAGE CONTINUES

    DETAIL INFORMATION

The containership Ever Forward's salvage operation reached a new phase over the weekend, with the 127,000-dwt vessel still aground in the Chesapeake Bay. The team decided that they needed to lighten the vessel by removing containers after days of dredging and two failed efforts to pull the vessel free.

The lifting began on Saturday, April 9th, and will continue every day during daylight hours. The purpose of the operation, according to the United States Coast Guard, is to remove up to 550 crates from the ship. Her carrying capacity is said to be 11,850 tonnes, and pictures of the ship suggest that she was about completely loaded when it ran aground on March 13.
