HKMPB was established in April 2016 to provide a high-level platform for the government to collaborate with industry to improve our maritime and port sectors. The HKMPB's main goals are to define the course for the long-term growth of Hong Kong's port and maritime services, to promote the development of maritime manpower, and to develop promotion strategies and initiatives to improve Hong Kong's standing as an international maritime centre. "Building on the vibrant port and established shipping heritage as an international maritime centre, Hong Kong will be further consolidated into a major maritime services hub through effective governance, policies, and practises for the maritime cluster, with good synergy with shipping and port operations," the organization's vision statement says.
