Although Hamad Port began operations in December 2016, the port was officially inaugurated on September 5, 2017 under the patronage of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Hamad Port, which is managed by Mwani Qatar and overseen by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, is one of the largest ports in the Middle East, with an annual capacity of 7.5 million twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) and is a long-term, physical manifestation of Qatar's National Vision 2030 – a port that focuses on the nation's social, economic, environmental, and human development.
