SAMSUNG HEAVY INDUSTRIES AND EVERGREEN PROGRESS REMOTE VESSEL OVERSIGHT
DETAIL INFORMATION
Looking ahead with remote ship management, shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries and Evergreen have launched the inaugural remote monitoring center co-developed by a shipyard and a shipowner. It represents a subsequent phase in an ongoing collaboration between the two firms that looks forward to the age of remote autonomous navigation.
The Samsung Remote Operation Center was set up at Evergreen's main office in Taipei, Taiwan. The companies indicate their intention to utilize the center to enhance technology application in remote periodic inspections and advance preparations for autonomous ships operating remotely.
The firms have already showcased the potential in autonomous vessel management and utilizing AI for ship operations. The yard supplied the newly constructed containerships for Evergreen with its Samsung Autonomous Ship technology. Between August 25 and September 6, the 15,500 TEU Ever Max (160,000 dwt) was navigated by an AI-assisted system during a 10,000-km (6,200-mile) journey across the Pacific. The ship, provided by Samsung in 2023, was engineered to integrate the latest technologies.
