  • INITIAL ELECTRICITY GENERATED FROM GERMANY'S BIGGEST OFFSHORE WIND FARM UTILIZING 15 MW TURBINES

    DETAIL INFORMATION

Germany's biggest offshore wind farm so far, EnBW's He Dreith initiative, reached significant milestones as it advances in construction and offers support for a somewhat troubled industry. On November 25, the project produced and supplied its first kilowatt-hour of electricity as it began the commissioning process for the turbines.

Peter Heydecker, EnBW Board Member for Sustainable Generation Infrastructure, referred to it as an important milestone for the company. He mentioned that the company has spent 15 years planning, constructing, and managing offshore wind farms in Germany, and it is now striving to achieve the aim of having 80 percent of its generation portfolio made up of renewable energies by 2028. Simultaneously, it anticipates eliminating coal-based electricity production.

He Dreiht is distinctive as it is the first to implement Vestas' 15 MW turbines. The business emphasizes that one complete turn of the rotor on the 15 MW wind turbine can provide enough electricity for four homes for one day. S&P Global states that the turbine “might transform offshore wind economics in the North Sea.”
