UK INITIATIVE AIMS TO MERGE CARBON AND EMISSION CAPTURE IN SOUTHAMPTON
DETAIL INFORMATION
The UK is backing the advancement of emission capture technologies that can be implemented in ports as an economical method of lowering emissions. The upcoming project will merge the emissions capture abilities of STAX Engineering with the carbon capture technology from Seabound.
The initiative, which includes Associated British Ports, is being granted £1.1 million ($1.48 million) as part of the UK Government’s Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition. They were chosen as one of the awardees in the recently concluded Round 6 of the contest.
“This initiative marks a pivotal moment for ports and the maritime decarbonization scene,” stated Stylianos Papageorgiou, Managing Director of lomarlabs, a maritime venture lab that is also aiding Seabound’s growth. “By incorporating carbon and emissions capture within a scalable, barge-oriented system, we’re creating a viable route to cleaner port activities without modifying vessels.”
