SCOTLAND GRANTS SSE CONSENT FOR POTENTIALLY THE LARGEST WIND FARM GLOBALLY
DETAIL INFORMATION
In what is termed a “crucial move” for Scotland and the UK’s renewable energy goals, the Scottish Government has approved the planned Berwick Bank offshore wind farm. If the project goes ahead, it would provide double the yearly requirements of households in Scotland and sufficient energy for approximately 17 percent of homes in the UK.
The substantial initiative has been in the works for over ten years, emphasizing SSE and is nearing the next phase of advancement. The approval from Scotland is the final significant consent required for the project to move forward. Nevertheless, it still needs to secure a power contract through the UK's Contracts for Difference program, which is expected to begin its next round in September. SSE must also arrive at its final investment decision.
The endorsement arrives shortly after Donald Trump urged Scotland to “Cease the windmills,” while he was visiting. He stated to journalists, “You soar above and observe these wind turbines scattered everywhere, affecting your lovely fields, and valleys, and harming your birds, and if they’re stranded in the sea, damaging your oceans,” according to the BBC. They emphasize that Trump started to resist Scottish wind farms because they "would ruin the scenery from his golf course."
