AT LEAST 18 CARGO SHIPS TRAPPED IN ICE AS ARTIC SEA FREEZES EARLY NEAR RUSSIA

Due to an early and unexpected freeze, at least 18 cargo ships are stranded in the Arctic Sea off the coast of Russia. Ice up to 30 cm thick has formed across most of the Laptev Sea and East Siberian waters, according to sources. While waiting for icebreakers to arrive, some of the ships may be trapped for months.
