A NEW ONBOARD CARBON CAPTURE PILOT WILL BE LAUNCHED ON THE SOLVANG LPG TANKER
DETAIL INFORMATION
In collaboration with the Norwegian shipping business Solvang, a pilot project comprising Wärtsilä, MAN Energy Solutions, and the research organisation SINTEF is prepared to begin testing a novel onboard carbon capture and storage technology. The firms claim that starting the pilot testing is a significant step in the project, which started in 2021 and had its initial testing in 2022.
"The world's deep-sea fleet can decarbonise much more quickly by combining onboard carbon collection with current cleaning equipment. Edvin Endresen, CEO of Solvang, states, "This is one of the more promising solutions for future vessels."
The Clipper Eris, an LPG tanker constructed in 2019, has been in dry dock for a complete overhaul for the past few months. The 18,000-dwt vessel arrived in Singapore's Seatrium Admiralty yard in November, and according to the company, the installation project was completed on January 16 when the team visited the yard.
