LARGEST WIND ROTOR ORDER RECEIVED BY NORSEPOWER TO BE INSTALLED ON AIRBUS VESSELS
DETAIL INFORMATION
The Finnish firm Norsepower claims that it has finished the largest order for rotor sails, continuing the path towards launching three sizable, wind-assisted freight vessels for Airbus. Built by China's Wuchang Shipbuilding, the vessels were ordered last month by Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) and will be used under charter to transport aeroplane components.
With six rotors total on each of the three boats, and with the support of new technologies, Norsepower reported that it has now completed the order for what will be the largest installation of rotors. Six 35-meter (115-foot) tall rotors arranged in three pairs on each vessel, as well as two dual-fuel engines powered by marine diesel and e-methanol, are features of the concept, which was first shown in October 2023. According to Norsepower, between 2023 and 2030, the Airbus fleet will produce about 50% fewer CO2 emissions while travelling over the Atlantic.
