WIND FARM FOR AMAZON AND GOOGLE BEGINS SUPPLYING ELECTRICITY TO GERMAN GRID
DETAIL INFORMATION
The Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farm began delivering its initial electricity to the German grid on December 3. The wind farm signifies another achievement for both Germany and the EU, becoming the largest offshore wind facility in Ørsted’s German collection and one that has secured over four-fifths of its energy through long-term corporate power purchase agreements.
Situated approximately 45 miles from the German shoreline in the North Sea, the project is being developed through a collaboration between Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure. Upon its full commissioning in the first quarter of 2026, it will possess a total capacity of 913 MW, positioning it just slightly below EnBW’s He Dreith (currently Germany’s largest) and among a series of new large offshore wind farms aimed at revitalizing the EU’s commitment to renewable energy.
“The initial power production at Borkum Riffgrund 3 marks a crucial milestone for German offshore wind and demonstrates our dedication to hastening the EU energy transition,” stated Jordi Francesch, Managing Director, Renewable Energy Investments at Nuveen Infrastructure.
