  • AT ZHENJIANG SHIPYARD, A NEW RO/RO WIND COMPONENT CARRIER IS INTRODUCED

    DETAIL INFORMATION

Two special cargo vessels for turbine components are being built by the offshore wind service vessel firm Deugro. These vessels are getting larger every year.

With turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa, Deugro Danmark was able to obtain a solid charter arrangement for its "Rotra" wind component transport idea. In collaboration with Siemens Gamesa, DEKC Maritime, a specialised vessel designer, and shipbuilder Concordia Damen, Deugro developed a more economical and effective vessel design to do the work.

Turbine blades can be stored three levels high on the Rotra Futura and sister ship Rotra Horizon, which are built for ro/ro loading with a rear ramp. Additionally, they have a house-forward housing configuration to optimise cargo deck area and cranes for increased loading flexibility. In order to accommodate the increasing size of contemporary turbines, the previous generation of Rotra vessels—which are house-aft and have a bow ramp—underwent major improvements in 2022. These changes included expanded sponsons and modified ro/ro ramps.
